Mission and Vision

Ten years after the Association was formed, we revisited our Mission, our Vision and our Shared Values. Both have served us well for a decade - our achievements in such a short time have been immense. However, the correctional world has changed and is continuing to change. In this changing world it made sense to revisit our Mission and Vision to ensure that it was fit for purpose for the next decade. We have changed very little as far as the Mission and Vision are concerned and these are restated below.

Mission
To promote and share ethical and effective correctional practices to enhance public safety and healthier communities worldwide.

Vision
To be the most influential international Association for ethical and effective corrections.
However, we saw the need to reshape our Shared Values; to reshape them and to build an action plan based on them that would take us forward in our second decade. This reshaping we have called the ICPA 2020 Strategy. It is a strategy that identifies five themes for our work:

1 - Respect/Protection
2 - Learning
3 - Sharing
4 - Partnerships
5 - Promoting/Influencing

Supporting these themes we have identified 11 Key Initiatives that will be taken forward over the next three years. These initiatives present us with significant challenges but are designed to ensure that our Association comes to be recognised universally as the most influential Association for ethical and effective corrections.
