ICPA: A Regional Strategy

As part of its 20:20 Vision, over recent months, we have been trying to implement a greater regional focus to the Association”s work. This approach is very much about looking at ways to take forward developments at a more local level.

Last year, in Barbados the Association formed a Latin American Chapter with Patricio Patino and Julio Cepeda at its head, alongside Javier Bustamante, taking the lead on developing a programme of work more attuned to the interests and issues in that continent. Next month, we will take a huge step toward cementing the growth of ICPA in Latin America when the Argentine Prison Service hosts the IInd Latin American Regional Conference, in Buenos Aires - more details here.

The developments have not all been restricted to Latin America! ICPA recently applied for, and was granted, not-for-profit status in the USA. Importantly, this will leave ICPA better placed to seek support within North America and to develop a programme of activities that reflects the North American situation. A similar approach will be taken in Europe with us seeking not-for-profit (charity status) to help with fund raising in Europe.
