ICPA 2nd Latin American Regional Seminar, 9-11th June 2010

The Argentine Federal Penitentiary Service and the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA) - Latin American Chapter is organising the IInd Latin American Regional Seminar entitled: “Key Problems of the Region and Opportunities for Penitentiary Reform in Latin America”.

The Seminar will take place in the City of Buenos Aires on the 9-11 June 2010 and will be held in the Buenos Aires Intercontinental Hotel. Registration is free, though places are limited. Participants are responsible for their own accommodation and travel costs.

The seminar will consist of presentations by international experts, workshops and visits to penitentiary facilities. The Seminar has been developed around four main topics:

1. Violent acts, deaths and suicide in a confinement context;
2. Young-Adults” treatment;
3. Women in Prisons;
4. Training for the Penitentiary Personnel and Human Rights.

A presentation and discussion on the role of private sector in the correctional environment will also take place.

The central rationale for the Seminar is to create a global forum for correctional professionals that will allow, through the sharing of worldwide experiences, the development of approaches and strategies for penitentiary issues that take account of the Latin American reality. For this reason, the seminar will afford ample space for discussion and for the sharing of best practice among a solid international network of correctional professionals.
