Restorative Juvenile Justice
Catholic University, Lima, Peru
November 4-7, 2009
First World Congress on Restorative Juvenile Justice at the Catholic University of Lima (Peru)
In consideration of the participative and inter-disciplinary nature of Restorative Juvenile Justice, this congress, the first event organized on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Terre des hommes Foundation, is open to anybody who wants to contribute to the debate: lawyers, judges, prosecutors, psychologists, police officers, psychoanalysts, social workers, educators, journalists, civil servants, authorities and anybody from the academic world , etc.
The purpose of this Congress is to promote Restorative Juvenile Justice (RJJ) as a new and promising model, encouraging alternative measures (socio-educational) over deprivation of liberty, and taking into account the different cultural and legal contexts. It will be a chance to exchange experiences, lessons learned and good practices, as well as working out guidelines for an RJJ which cares about children and is suited to practical experience and international standards. It will enable justice for minors to become a key-element in global policies for Human Rights in every State.

Nacro’s Annual Conference 2009
Church House Conference Centre, London
Working together to reduce youth crime - Effective solutions inside and outside the criminal justice system
Nacro’s 2009 annual conference will identify and discuss practical solutions to youth offending: how the criminal justice system should respond and where matters are better dealt with outside the system. The conference will identify effective practice for joint work between statutory and voluntary agencies, the communities they serve and ex-offenders – reinforcing the contribution each can make and, in doing so, saving society a huge cost.
The event will hear from those in policy and those on the front line – and from young people themselves. It will attract a wide-ranging audience: professionals and volunteers working with young people, those developing policy and concerned members of the public. The conference is aimed at anyone wanting to explore dynamic responses to young people’s criminality – how individuals and agencies
can work together to prevent reoffending. The conference will be of benefit to professionals, volunteers and participants from:
• children’s, youth, education and other local authority services
• youth offending teams
• police services
• crime and disorder reduction partnerships
• youth forums
• the Youth Justice Board
• the Department for Children, Schools and Families
• the Home Office and Justice Department
• voluntary, statutory and private sector providers.
• youth court and referral panel members
• politicians and policy makers
• academics and researchers
• students
• members of the media
• anyone with an interest in youth work and youth offending.
The conference will be chaired by Angela Sarkis CBE, Chief Executive of the Nurture Group Network and plenary speakers this year will include Rob Allen Director of the International Centre for Prison Studies Paul Cavadino Chief Executive, Nacro John Drew Chief Executive, Youth Justice Board Gillian Guy Chief Executive, Victim Support Mark Johnson Journalist and author (along with members of User Voice) Professor Lesley McAra Chair of Penology in the School of Law, University of Edinburgh Detective Superintendent Darren Shenton Lead on Xcalibre and Operation Cougar, Greater Manchester Police Geeta Subramaniam Head of Crime Reduction and Supporting People, London Borough of Lewisham Jackie Worrall Director of Policy and Public Affairs, Nacro...more information
